My Brave Came to Kindy

Sometimes the bravest moments are the ones nobody else notices.

A gentle story about finding courage, trying something new and discovering that being brave doesn't mean never feeling afraid.

For young children, bravery can appear in the smallest moments — saying goodbye, joining a new experience, asking for help or finding the confidence to try again.

Every small step deserves to be recognised.

Beyond the Story

Courage Doesn't Always Look Brave

When we think about bravery, we often imagine big, confident moments — a child climbing to the top of a structure, speaking in front of a group or eagerly trying something new.

But courage isn't always loud or obvious.

Sometimes it's a child standing quietly at the edge of a group, wondering whether they're ready to join in.

Sometimes it's reaching for a teacher's hand, asking a question or trying something that didn't work the first time.

And sometimes, bravery is simply arriving at kindy when saying goodbye still feels difficult.

Brave's story reminds us that courage isn't the absence of fear. It's finding a way forward while those uncertain feelings are still there.

As educators, we can become so focused on celebrating children's achievements that we overlook the courage it took to begin.

Perhaps the most meaningful encouragement isn't always, “You did it!”

Sometimes it's recognising the effort, the hesitation, the decision and the small step that came before the achievement.

When we notice these moments, we help children recognise their own growing capabilities without expecting them to be confident all the time.

How might our understanding of bravery change if we began noticing the small, quiet moments of courage that happen throughout a child's day?
